I received this before the weekend, and was able to install it over the weekend. I had tough time finding a spot in my New Beetle but I am glad that I was able to mounted without taking up too much space. I mounted it next and right below the headlight switch and it is pretty convenience location for it. I can reach all the controls without looking down on the unit. I used Firestik FW 3′ antenna with it, and it gets very good signal. Nice thing about the unit is the front firing speaker and the weather channels - it sounds very crisp and clear.
Now one Con: size, it is fairly large like a DIN radio, so plan your space on your dashboard accordingly.

Hi
I recently purchased for 4 Uniden 510XL CB radios for our 4WD Off-road Club as prizes for our summer raffle. My decision was based on my 4 year personal experience of owning a Pro510XL in my Jeep on “Steroids” and using it under real world off-road field conditions with no problems what so ever. My fellow club members also always comment how clear my radio transmissions sound to them. FYI I use a tuneable 1/4 wavelength antenna (i.e. firestick). We use CB radio to coomunicate between our vehicles while on the trail, often out of sight of each other and rely on them for safety reasons and emergency communication. With 55+ CB radio equipped off-road vehicles I can unequivocally say that Cobra radios are the worst and often don’t last two years. We have about 11 vehicles equipped with various models of Uniden CB radios and I have never heard anyone complaining about theirs. They seem to work all of the time. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with a Uniden 510ProXL.It’s fool proof and easy to operate without taking your eyes off the trail. It’s small size makes it easy to install. I also see that the Radioshack CB’s seem to work ok too. Deadbear

Excellent CB for the money. I installed it in my Wrangler, behind the tuffy console. I mated it with a tunable Firestik firefly on the front bumper. SWR around 1.5. Works great.

I picked up the 510XL to augment my 2 meter ham radio in my FJ40. The small size made it easy to find a location to mount it. With a front bumper mounted antennae I have an SWR of 1.4 and very good reports from other trucks on the trail.

When I ordered this CB, I really didn’t want to buy another compact model, but in this case I’m glad I did. Don’t let the small size scare you away. The audio is loud and crisp, and you get tuning knob that goes “click, click, click” just like the big ones. This is one case where you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a great product. This one walks and talks every bit as good as the big (EXPENSIVE)CB’s, for a third of the price. If there is one negative, it would be the Microphone cord. It could be longer. You wont be disapointed with the PRO510XL.

Just purchased 2 of them-spent some time installing into a jeep YJ. With a Firestik 4′ antenna-broadcasting (Cobra CB in another jeep for listening) the ’sending’ quality was great-crystal clear and no muffling. However, RECIEVING was terrible. Sound was low bass and very muffled. Tried both CB’s in one jeep, swapped antennas, etc. to make sure it wasn’t one or the other. Both units had the same cheap speaker quality, both sent perfectly.
You could hear and understand what was recieved but very poorly. For offroading with the top down and engine revving, probably would be hard to hear. But…there is a built in jack for external speakers so we are going to wire it to the dash radio speakers. (there is no radio, so why not!) and that should take care of it. The second one is going in a 2003 jeep rubicon, and I will have a spare speaker for that. Probably $2.99 at Radio shack to get the jack plugs and it will be done!

This radio was good when it worked. the speaker would work when it wanted to and the display stopped working in less than 30 days. the range was more than expected it could hear real well. returned the radio for a refund and decided to go with a more higher end radio Galaxy DX-979.

I’m running this CB with a Wilson “Little Wil” antenna, perfectly tuned, and it works great. I haven’t peaked it or anything, but it seems to have plenty of power as is. About 2-3 miles in town loud and clear. The only thing I don’t like about it is the squelch range is wrong. I have to turn the squelch almost all the way up to get silence and it’s very touchy up at that end. My XM radio that I have mounted below the CB does generate some noise, but even with that turned off, it still has to be turned almost all the way up. It could just be a manufacturing defect; I might have to change a resistor or something.

Not as good as my old radio shack model which is 10 years old. This unit isn’t as strong on receiving, even with a new antenna. It also picked up ignition noise. The squelch had to be set to low noise just to get any reception at all. The weather alert was also weak. I sent it back and am using the old radio shack model.

I searched and reviewed a dozen different CB radios before selecting this one. It has everything I need and is definitely within my budget. The front facing speaker is excellent for projecting sound and since it faces front you won’t get it muffled by the way it is mounted. It has a push button for channel 9 and of course a PA/CB/Weather selector switch. It has 3 weather channels available and on my cross country trip from the East coast to the West coast I almost always had a weather channel available. I have a magnetic mount antenna (Lil something) which I also bought from Amazon and it rocks with this radio. For the cost and features this is one of the best (if not THE best) CB radio available. You can’t go wrong with this one!
