Not as good as my old radio shack model which is 10 years old. This unit isn’t as strong on receiving, even with a new antenna. It also picked up ignition noise. The squelch had to be set to low noise just to get any reception at all. The weather alert was also weak. I sent it back and am using the old radio shack model.

When I ordered this CB, I really didn’t want to buy another compact model, but in this case I’m glad I did. Don’t let the small size scare you away. The audio is loud and crisp, and you get tuning knob that goes “click, click, click” just like the big ones. This is one case where you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a great product. This one walks and talks every bit as good as the big (EXPENSIVE)CB’s, for a third of the price. If there is one negative, it would be the Microphone cord. It could be longer. You wont be disapointed with the PRO510XL.

Hi
I recently purchased for 4 Uniden 510XL CB radios for our 4WD Off-road Club as prizes for our summer raffle. My decision was based on my 4 year personal experience of owning a Pro510XL in my Jeep on “Steroids” and using it under real world off-road field conditions with no problems what so ever. My fellow club members also always comment how clear my radio transmissions sound to them. FYI I use a tuneable 1/4 wavelength antenna (i.e. firestick). We use CB radio to coomunicate between our vehicles while on the trail, often out of sight of each other and rely on them for safety reasons and emergency communication. With 55+ CB radio equipped off-road vehicles I can unequivocally say that Cobra radios are the worst and often don’t last two years. We have about 11 vehicles equipped with various models of Uniden CB radios and I have never heard anyone complaining about theirs. They seem to work all of the time. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with a Uniden 510ProXL.It’s fool proof and easy to operate without taking your eyes off the trail. It’s small size makes it easy to install. I also see that the Radioshack CB’s seem to work ok too. Deadbear

I picked up the 510XL to augment my 2 meter ham radio in my FJ40. The small size made it easy to find a location to mount it. With a front bumper mounted antennae I have an SWR of 1.4 and very good reports from other trucks on the trail.

Excellent CB for the money. I installed it in my Wrangler, behind the tuffy console. I mated it with a tunable Firestik firefly on the front bumper. SWR around 1.5. Works great.

Just purchased 2 of them-spent some time installing into a jeep YJ. With a Firestik 4′ antenna-broadcasting (Cobra CB in another jeep for listening) the ’sending’ quality was great-crystal clear and no muffling. However, RECIEVING was terrible. Sound was low bass and very muffled. Tried both CB’s in one jeep, swapped antennas, etc. to make sure it wasn’t one or the other. Both units had the same cheap speaker quality, both sent perfectly.
You could hear and understand what was recieved but very poorly. For offroading with the top down and engine revving, probably would be hard to hear. But…there is a built in jack for external speakers so we are going to wire it to the dash radio speakers. (there is no radio, so why not!) and that should take care of it. The second one is going in a 2003 jeep rubicon, and I will have a spare speaker for that. Probably $2.99 at Radio shack to get the jack plugs and it will be done!

Doesn’t perform as good as a new battery….. after about 40 - 60 min of use my phone starts beeping again.

Although MUCH cheaper than buying Uniden batteries, the old saying, “You get what you pay for” held true. Shortly after use, these batteries also did not hold a charge. Ended up buying new Uniden phones, which was just about as cheap as buying new Uniden batteries. As an aside, I am very pleased with Uniden phones and have used them for years. But when the batteries go, may as well buy new phones.

These batteries were a waste of time and money. I bought 2 in December of 2007 and put them in the phones to charge and went on a one week cruise. When I came back only one phone had charged. The other battery would not hold a charge. I contacted the seller and he sent a replacement. Now 7 months later both phones have to charge overnight to make a 5 minute call and then they die again! I think they are used batteries. My brother has the same phones also and I told him about these batteries when I first bought them and he bought them too. Same problem. He bought new batteries by Uniden and loves them.

This CB is a very good buy. For the quality of it, the price is the best I’ve seen. I used it with the Cobra A1500 antenna. I found about 5 miles. Also, it is compact and fit in the console. The only problem was getting use to the squelch and RF Gain. This is my first CB and I am very happy with it.

I had bought this radio at a Radio Shack store in town when we went to visit my dad in Indiana last Christmas. I had only bought it because my old Radio Shack cb I have had for about 8 1/2 years had died on me on the way there. I Bought the 520Xl and hooked it up to my SWR meter with my 3 ft Firestik antenna with magnet mount I had on the back, and right off, i never had to make an adjustment at all, because I had a SWR reading between 1:0 and 1:5. I used this radio on the way back, and was able to reach people up to 5 miles away, which was great! unfortunatly on the way back, I had to take my antenna off because everytime a semi passed us on the road, it would blow my antenna off the truck. When I got home, I took my CB to a cb shop near by and had it peaked and tuned, so now it gets 14 watts out instead of 7, and I can talk over 15-20 miles on a clear day. I did however switch antennas to a K40 3 ft antenna with adjustable sleeve that I had for years, and it works about the same. Get the radio, get you a good quality antenna like Firestik, K40, Wilson, or another good name brand. If you know somebody who can do it, get it peaked and tune, or take it to a cb shop and have them do it, and you will get somebody surely everytime you talk. Well worth the money, sorry about rambling on, but I felt if I shared experiences, it would help.
One more thing is that I know 4 truck drivers that have this CB in their trucks over a big Cobra, and they love the size and availability of the radio.
Get the Uniden 520xl, get a quality antenna, get a peak and tune if availble, and get talking!! You won’t regret it.
I hope to talk to some of you soon. If you are ever on I-24 between Exit 110-121, give me a call and see if my radio is on. My handle is Hoosier in the South.

The editorial product review is incorrect.

The Pro520XL has been mounted in my Jeep now for several years. It has been exposed the elements and has taken a beating off road and has never had a problem.

False advertising!! This replacement phone battery was advertised as 3.6v, 900mAh. What was delivered was 3.6v, 800mAh. The manufacturer’s OEM battery was 900mAh and I was looking for a 100% equivalent replacement. Lower amperage batteries don’t last as long between charges as higher amperage batteries, are of cheaper chemical construction and therefore less expensive. This explains the budget price. Not worth the hassle to get a refund. Avoid this seller!!.

I recently bought a pair of ultralast UL 003 batteries for unident BT-003 cordless phone and for me they work perfectly,I leaved the batteries charging for ten hours the first time and after that, I use them normally and they work excellent the battery last enough (I talked to a friend for about 1 1/2 hr and the battery still showed full charge)

I recently ordered some rechargeable batteries from Batteries_4cheap that wouldn’t hold a charge. Batteries_4cheap promptly issued me a refund and a Postage Paid return label for returning the batteries. I will definitely do business with them again as they are awesome. Thank you Aidy!
